100 foreign troops die in 3 months

KABULinfo-icon(PANinfo-icon): An international soldier was killed in southern Afghanistaninfo-icon, bringing the total number of fatalities among the coalition this year to 100, the alliance said on Monday.

The International Security Assistance Force (ISAFinfo-icon) soldier was killed on Sunday following an improvised explosive device strike in southern Afghanistan, ISAF said in a statement.

In line with its policy, ISAF neither disclosed the nationality of the fallen solder, nor the exact location of the incident.

However, Canada’s Defence Ministry said a Canadian soldier was killed in a roadside bomb blast that happened as they were patrolling Nakhunyan, in the southeast of Kandahar city, the provincial capital.

Canadahas 2,800 soldiers in Afghanistan, most of whom are based in Kandahar province. Up to 155 Canadian soldiers have been killed since the beginning of their deployment.

Since the beginning of 2011, 100 foreign soldiers, including 68 American and 14 British, have been killed in Afghanistan, according to the icasualties website.

There are 150,000 soldiers from 48 countries in Afghanistan fighting under the flag of NATOinfo-icon. Over the past 10 years, 2,381 foreign soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan.
