Paktia beats Baghlan in inter-provincial cricket tournament

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Paktia's cricket club marched into the semi-finals of an inter-provincial cricket tournament after defeating Baghlan in eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday, an official said.

The match was played in the Behsud district, a spokesman for the cricket board, Farid Hotak, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Baghlan won the toss and chose to bat first. The side managed 136 runs in 31 overs, with Juma Gul emerging the top scorer with 29 runs.

For Paktia, Fazl Niazi and Rahmat Shah shared four wickets each.

According to Hotak, Paktia chased the target in the 26th over with seven wickets in hand, setting the stage for the final against Maidan Wardak on Wednesday.

Asfar Zazi, who scored 62 runs guided Paktia to an easy win over Baghlan. Paktia's all-rounder, Fazl Niazi, who contributed 24 runs and took four wickets, was declared the man of the match.

Teams representing 12 provinces are taking place in the the event.
