Drugs seized in Helmand

LASHKARGAH (PANinfo-icon): Seventy-eight kilograms of drugs were seized in police search operations in the southern province of Helmand, the worldinfo-icon's largest opium-producing region, officials said on Saturday.

Police seized 15 kg of heroin and 54 kg of opium on Friday in Lashkargah City, the provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Hakim Angar, told Pajhwok Afghan News. Two people were detained on the charge of trafficking the drugs.

Nine kg of opium were seized during the search of a house in the Durzi village of Garmser district, Angar said.

Since March.22, up to 5,000 kg of opium, 150 kg of heroin, 300 kg of hashish, 660 litres of acid, and 700 kg of other solid chemicals have been seized and 55 suspected drug traffickers detained in the province.
