Essential item rates remain steady

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): The prices of essential daily-use commodities stayed stable during the outgoing week in Kabul, market sources said on Thursday.

Fazal Rahman, the Food Traders' Union head, said a 24-kg bag of Pakistani rice cost 1,800afs, a 50-kg sack of sugar 1,750afs and a 5-kg tin of Momin Ghee 400afs.

He added a kg of Indonesian green tea was priced at 175afs, same quantity of African black tea at 210afs and a 49-kg sack of Pakistani flour at 1,350afs -- same rates as last week’s rates.

But a retailer in the Kart-i-Seh area of Kabul, Khan Ali, sold a 49-kg bag of flour for 1,370afs, a 50-kg sack of sugar for 1,950afs and a 49-kg bag of rice for 2,000afs.

He sold a 5-kg tin of Momin ghee for 440afs, a kilo of African black tea for 260afs and the same quantity of Indonesian green tea for 240afs -- higher than wholesale prices.

A filling station official in the Wazirabad locality, Abdul Hadi, said a litre of diesel and patrol each cost 64afs, registering no change.

Mohammad Sharif, a liquefied gas seller in Kolola Pushta neighbourhood, sold a kilo of the commodity for 68afs.

The rate of per 560 kilograms of peeled oak stood at 7,000afs and the same quantity of sawdust at 9,000 afs, said Sultan, a stall owner in Sarsabzi area.

Abdul Baseer, a jeweller in the Lycée Maryam neighbourhood, said one gram of Arabian gold sold for 2,000afs and the same quantity of the Iranian variety for 1,650afs.

Moneychanger Ahmad Shah said the buying rate of one US dollar was 56.60afs, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 530afs. Last week's exchange value of the dollar stood at 57afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 541afs.
