Petrol up, flour & gold down in Kabul

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The price of petrol soared while rates of flour and gold decreased during the outgoing week in Kabul, market sources said on Thursday.

Abdul Saboor, a filling station worker in Wazirabad locality, told Pajhwok Afghan News the price of one litre of petrol increased from 58 to 60 afghanis, while diesel stayed unchanged at 58afs.

Liquefied gas also remained steady. A gas dealer in Taimani neighborhood, Abdullah, said one kilogram of liquefied gas continued to cost 55 afghanis.

But the price of flour fell. Fazal Rahman, the Food Traders' Union head, said a 50-kiogram bag of Pakistani flour decreased from 1,300afs to 1280afs.

A 50-kg bag of Pakistani sugar cost 1,550afs -- the same price as last week. One kilogram of green tea was priced at 180afs, the same quantity of African black tea at 210afs, a 5-kg tin of Momin ghee at 380afs and a 24-kilo of Pakistani rice 1,800afs.

But a retailer in Dahan-i-Bagh area, Jan Mohammad, sold a 49-kg bag of flour for 1,400afs, a 50-kg sack of sugar for 1,700afs, a 24-kg bag of rice for 2,300afs and a 5-kg tin of Momin ghee for 460afs.

He sold one kilogram of African black tea for 270afs and the same quantity of Afghan green tea for 250afs -- higher than wholesale prices.

Abdul Baseer, a jeweler in Lycée Maryam area, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold went down from 2,000afs to 1,900afs and the same quantity of the Iranian variety from 1,700afs to 1,600afs.

Moneychanger Ahmad Shah said the buying rate of one US dollar was 57.65afs, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 575afs.

Last week's exchange value of the dollar stood at 57.60afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 575afs.
