Car bomb kills 6 inside Taliban leader house

Jun 11, 2015 - 17:27

MAIDAN SHAHR/KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): A car bomb blast killed six people and injured nearly a dozen others inside the house of a Talibaninfo-icon commander in central Maidan Wardak province, an official said on Thursday.

The blast took place inside the house of Qari Mohammad alias Mutaqi in the Chak district on Wednesday night, when explosives were being placed in the car, Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said Mutaqi, two foreign and three local militants were among the dead and the injured included a female member of Mutaqi and five children. He said Mutaqi might be planning to target a government institution or convoys of security forces in the province.

Syed Rahman, a resident of the area, said the slain commander was packing a Mazda vehicle with explosives when the blast occurred. He said it was a powerful blast and was heard miles away.

Elsewhere, a policeman was wounded in a car suicide bombing in the Daman district of southern Kandahar province, the governor’s spokesman, Samim Khapalwak, said.

He added police identified the suicide bomber and ordered him to stop, but he detonated his explosives.

Police spokesman Zia Durrani said only the attacker was killed in the explosion and there were no other causalities.

But a security official, who wished to go unnamed, said one policeman wounded in the blast had been shifted to hospital.
