Hospital construction work resumes in Uruzgan

Hospital construction work resumes in Uruzgan

Aug 09, 2015 - 17:58

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Construction work on a 50-bed hospital in the capital of central Uruzgan province has resumed after it was halted six years ago, the acting governor said on Sunday.

Amanullah Taimuri told the inauguration ceremony that the construction company had left the project half completed six years ago due to a lack of budget.

But now the Ministry of Public Healthinfo-icon had set aside 129 million afghanis for the project which would take 18 months to complete.

He said the 50-bed hospital would meet modern standards and would have 150 rooms. He said the only civil hospital in Tirinlot treated both civilians and security forces and the new hospital would resolve problems currently being faced by local residents.

Local residents said they were happy over the resumption of work on the new hospital and urged the authorities to complete the project this time.

Najibullah, a resident, said the government should not allow the contractor concerned to flee before completing the hospital.

He proposed the governor’s house should appoint a committee to supervise construction works on the hospital building.
