Nimroz protestors demand child killers’ execution

ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Hundreds of residents on Thursday took to the streets in southwestern Nimroz province against the murder of a child, demanding harsher punishment for his detained killers.

Five-years-old Zekria was found dead after being kidnapped last week by unknown men in Zaranj city, the provincial capital.

Four kidnappers were pulling the child’s dead body from a well after killing him four days ago to bury him in a residential building when police detained them. The detainees include a cousin of the victim.

Hundreds of people, including the child’s family, on Thursday gathered in Zaranj city to demand harsher punishment for the killers. They hailed police for detaining the killers and asked judicial organs to punish them all.

Abdul Qayum, grand-father of the child, said: “My grandchild was mercilessly killed and the government should execute his murderers.”

Abdul Hadi Bidar, one of the protest organisers, told Pajhwok Afghan News their protest gathering was aimed to seek justice for the victim and protection of children and to draw government’s attention to such incidents.

“We would continue our struggle until the government responds to people’s demands,” he said.

However, Nimroz crime branch chief Col. Abdul Hadi Azizi said police had completed their investigation from the detained men who would be referred to the attorney’s office.

The Afghanistaninfo-icon Independent Human Rights Commission’s regional office in Nimroz had also demanded punishment for the murderers.

At least five children have been kidnapped this solar yearinfo-icon in Nimroz and four of them were rescued by police and one killed by his kidnappers.

A week ago, intelligence forces rescued a two and a half years old child from his kidnappers and detained two men in connection with his kidnapping in Zaranj city.
