Kidnapped young man found beheaded in Nimroz

Kidnapped young man found beheaded in Nimroz

Feb 18, 2016 - 16:18

ZARANJ (Pajhwok): A young man has been found beheaded weeks after his abduction in Khashrod district of northwestern Nimroz province, an official said on Thursday.

The victim, Mohammad Arif, had been kidnapped by unknown gunmen along with three others when they were traveling from Khashrod district to Zaranj city, the provincial capital, three weeks ago.

A security official, who wished not to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Arif was a civilian and had no government job. His body was found in Khashrod district, the source said.

The official accused Talibaninfo-icon militants of kidnapping and beheading Arif, saying the fate of the three others, residents of Helmand province, was unknown.

The official said Mohammad Arif was brother of Khashrod police chief who had been sentenced to jail for negligence in duty.

Khashrod district chief, Mohammad Hasham Noorzai, said the body of Arif was handed over to police by local elders.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident, but the group had previously said the kidnapped men were members of a security post in Khashrod district.

Residents of Nimroz province have recently protested against the increasing incidents of kidnapping and have asked the government to improve security and prevent such incidents.
