‘Iranian-made’ bombs discovered in Bamyan

‘Iranian-made’ bombs discovered in Bamyan

Feb 28, 2016 - 17:10

BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): An arms depot containing “Iranian-made” ammunition and explosives has been discovered in central Bamyan province, an intelligence official claimed on Sunday.

Provincial National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) chief Gen. Hayatullah Rostazada told a news conference here that the cache was discovered in an impassable area in Shibar district of Bamyan.

The discovery included 33 antipersonnel bombs, eight anti-tank mines, 25 RPG rockets, three missiles and two boxes of machinegun bullets, he said.

He said the cache belonged to Mullahinfo-icon Seddiqullah, a Talibaninfo-icon commander in Tala Wa Barfak district of northern Baghlan province, and he was planning to use them for destructive activities in Bamyan.

“There is no opportunity for Taliban or any other militants to stand groun in Bamyan. We have neutralised the plots of our enemies,” the official said.

Governor Tahir Zuhair said the seizure prevented terrorist plot and would help improve security. He said the bombs were Iranian-made and other ammunition belonged to Russia.

A security official, wishing not to be named, said militants had the plan to disrupt security of Bamyan by using the explosives.

He said Taliban had recently installed their shadow governor for Bamyan province.

However, local officials said the shadow governor’s appointment was meaningless because there was no place for the rebels to hide and disrupt the security of the province.

“Enemies under any name if tried to come here would be eliminated by the Afghan forces,” the governor said.

Local officials said Bamyan was a stable province where militants sneaking from neighboring provinces were immediately killed by Afghan forces.
