FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): At least 10 civilians were killed and 40 others wounded in a remote-controlled explosion in the Kisham district of northeastern Badakhshan province on Monday, an official said.

Ahmad Naveed Frotan, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion took place at around 10:00am in the main square of the district. “It was a remote-controlled bombing involving an explosives-rigged motorcycle and the victims are all civilians,”

But Dr. Jameel Sultani, head of the district hospital, confirmed receiving more than 40 wounded people. Six succumbed to their wounds, he said, adding the seriously injured were being transferred to other hospitals in Takhar and Faizabad.
