ZARANJ (Pjahwok): Reconstructioninfo-icon work on a more than four-kilometer road was launched in the capital of southwestern Nimroz province on Tuesday.

The road in Sistan town is being reconstructed at a cost of 57 million afghanis, officials said. The 6.5 meters wide road would take seven months to complete and put into use.

Engineer Farid Azimi, a Rural Rehabilitation and Development Ministry official, said it would be for the first time a road was being reconstructed under the National Rural Access Program (NRAP) in Nimroz.

Governor Mohammad Sami said they were trying to build more roads to facilitate the inhabitants of Zaranj.

He said other similar projects would be executed in Nimroz to resolve people’s problems.

A resident of Sistan town, Zaman Khan said, they faced problems while travelling on dust roads.

In winter season, rainwater used to accumulate and turn the bumpy roads into pools, disturbing traffic and causing great inconvenience to people, he said.

Another resident, Mohammad Salim, said the government should monitor the road during its reconstruction in order the money was saved from being wasted.

The governor said he had tasked officials concerned with monitoring the road project to ensure that work was done as required.
