End to terror a must for stability in Afghanistan: Modi

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underlined the imperative of eradicating the scourge of terrorism to foster stability in Afghanistaninfo-icon and the region at large, a news report said on Sunday.

Modi made the remarks at a meeting with foreign ministers from Afghanistan, Pakistaninfo-icon, Kyrgyzstan, Iran and Slovakia on the eve of the Heart of Asia Istanbul Process in Amritsar on Sunday.

It was a collective responsibility of all regional states to work together to put Afghanistan on the road to stability and prosperity, Externalinfo-icon Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup quoted Modi as saying.

According to the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency, Modi said the Afghan people and leaders had convinced him they were fed up with terrorism and senseless violence.

While calling for an end to terrorism to foster stability, security and development in Afghanistan, Modi hoped the ministerial conference would yield a positive outcome.

The foreign ministers reportedly endorsed Modi's stance, Swarup said, adding: "They greatly appreciated the continued commitment and engagement of India and its leadership for these ends.”
