7 dead, 16 hurt in Badakhshan bus-truck collision

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): At least seven passengers were killed and another 16 wounded when a bus crashed into a truck on Faizabad-Kasham road in northeastern Badakhshan province on Monday, an official said.

Ahmad Naweed Frotan, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News a 404 model passenger bus of Qudrat Transportation Company, heading from Kabulinfo-icon to Faizabad, capital of Badakhshan, collided with a Hino truck in Kasham district.

The head-on collision took place in Damgao locality of the district around 9:30am today, he said, adding the injured included womeninfo-icon and children.

Abdul Salam Paiman, Kasham district chief, confirmed the accident, saying all the wounded had been evacuated to hospitals for treatment. One of the injured was said to be in critical condition.

Local officials linked the accident to driver's recklessness and bad road condition.

Meanwhile, President Ashraf Ghani in a statement extended his heart-felt sympathy and deep condolences to the families of those killed and wounded in the accident.

The president ordered the officials concerned to pay full attention in treatment of the people injured. Ghani stressed a comprehensive observation of transportation companies was needed.
