Bid to smuggle 24kg of heroin to Iran foiled

ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Police seized 24 kilograms of heroin and foiled their smuggling to neighboring Iran from southwestern Nimroz province.

Nimroz police chief Brig. Gen. Ghulam Jilani Abubakr told Pajhwok Afghan News the heroin which had been skillfully concealed in a truck were recovered in the zero point area between Afghanistaninfo-icon and Iran border on Monday evening.

He said the truck driver, hailing from southern Helmand province, had been arrested.

The driver, who refused to be identified, told Pajhwok Afghan News he was unaware someone had placed drugs in his truck.

Drugs are mostly trafficked from Helmand, Kandahar, Farah and Herat provinces to Nimroz and then to Iran.
