ZARANJ (Pajhwok): A coordinated Talibaninfo-icon attack to capture Khashrud district of northwestern Nimroz province has been frustrated after a dozen Afghan army soldiers were lost to an earlier attack two days back.

Provincial crime branch police chief, Col. Saleh Mohammad Massoud, told Pajhwok Afghan News militants had been planning a massive attack on the district but security forces already informed about the attack and pushed them back.

But two days back, the militants targeted Afghan National Armey (ANA) check-posts, killing 12 ANA soldiers and wounding eight others, he said. Four militants were also killed and seven injured in the battle.

The Taliban have not yet commended on the incidents.
