BAMYAN (Pajhwok): Female Afghan skier, Geeti Ebadi, was on Tuesday allotted a land plot by the provincial government of central Bamyan province in recognition of her recent achievement in the sportinfo-icon.

Ebadi won gold medal in skiing competitions in South Korea in January. Athletes from 48 countries participated in the events.

Three Afghans including two girls were among the participants. Ebadi secured first and Fareba Ahmadi fourth positions in the competitions.

The Bamyan government on Tuesday granted a certificate of appreciation and a land plot to Ebadi at a ceremony to appreciate the athletes.

On the occasion, 3rd municipal district chief of Bamyan City, Haji Yosuf, gave away the keys of a car to Geeti Ebadi as an encouragement gift.

Bamyan Governor Mohammad Tahir Zaheer congratulated the entire sportsinfo-icon community of the country on the achievements and hoped skiing would see further promotion in Bamyan.

He said culturally and climate-wise, Bamyan was suitable for skiing development, asking the Physical Educationinfo-icon and Sports Department to pay serious attention to the sport and introduce Bamyan as a center of skiing.

Geeti Ebadi thanked the governor, the sports director and elders of Bamyan for paying her respect.

“I feel proud to be able to achieve champion’s name for my country. I dedicate it to my beloved country, my parents and all those who put their honest efforts into developing sports and encouraging the youth in Afghanistaninfo-icon”, she added.

National Skiing Federation chief Mohammad Afzal Noori said that six teams, including a foreign team, were currently active in Bamyan participating in every national and international competition.

It is said several girls have been trained as professional skiers in the province and they would soon be participating in international competitions.

Skiing has improved in recent years in Bamyan as many skiers are seen skidding down the snow-blanketed slopes individually and in groups especially on Fridays.
