Gas, sugar prices down in Kabul

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The prices of sugar and liquefied gas decreased during the past week in capital Kabul, market sources said on Saturday.

Food Traders Union Head, Fazal Rahman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the price of 49 kilograms of Pakistani sugar decreased from 2,500 afghanis to 2,400 afghanis due to its high imports.

The closure of Afghanistaninfo-icon’s border with Pakistaninfo-icon for about a month surged prices of some items, however the crossing points were reopened on March 21, or the beginning of the new solar yearinfo-icon.

Rahman said 24.5 kilograms of Pakistani rice cost 1,650afs, 50kg of Kazakh flour 1,150afs and 16 liters of Khurshid ghee 1,100afs, the same prices as of last week’s.

Haji Rahmatullah, a tea seller in Kabul Mandavi, said a kilogram of Madina green tea was sold for 240afs and the same amount of African black tea for 260afs, the same rates as of last week’s.

Ahmad Sharif, who owns a grocery store in Taimani neighborhood, said 49kg of Kazakhstani flour was sold for 1,250afs and 49kg sack of Pakistani sugar for 2,550afs.

He sold 16-litre tin of Khurshid ghee for 1,200afs, 24.5kg sack of Pakistani rice for 1,800afs, a kilo of Madina green tea for 270afs and the same quantity of African black tea for 290afs -- higher than wholesale prices.

Ahmad Javid, a gas seller in the Sixth Taimani Road area, said that the price of a kilogram of the commodity reduced from 53afs to 47afs.

However, Abdul Hadi, a worker at Wazir Abad Fuel Station, said a liter of diesel cost 41afs and the same amount of petrol 44afs, registering change in their prices.

The price of gold also remains unchanged.

Mohammad Fawad, a jeweller in Timor Shahi area, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold was 2,300afs and the same quantity of Russia gold accounted for 1,850afs.

According to moneychangers’ union in Sara-i-Shahzada, one US dollar was accounted for 67.70afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees for 628afs against last week's 68.23afs and 630afs.
