54 Taliban claimed killed in Uruzgan offensive

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): At least 54 Talibaninfo-icon have been killed and 32 others wounded during a week of ongoing operations in southern Uruzgan province, security officials said on Sunday.

Brig. Gen. Gulam Hazrat Kakar, Atal Military Corps spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the “Operation Khalid” operations was ongoing since one week on the outskirts of Trinkot city, the provincial capital.

He said security forces had made significant progress and recaptured three villages from Taliban militants, killing 54. Kakar said the Tirinkot-Hararod road would be reopened as a result of the operation.

The offensive would be extended to other areas as well and would continue until majority of the areas were recaptured back, Kakar added.

Taliban spokesperson Qari Yousuf Ahmadi tweeted that the rebels had pushed back security forces in Tirinkot. He claimed a security forces tank was destroyed and 15 security forces personnel suffered casualties.
