Most national projects victim of corruption: Hadid

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The provincial council head for northern Balkh province on Thursday claimed most projects executed with national budget were being given to relatives of powerful individuals, ministers and lawmakers.

Dr. Mohammad Afzal Hadid was talking to Pajhwok Afghan News on the sidelines of a gathering on next year’s national budget in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital.

Balkh economy director Janat Gul Sharafat said $61 million had been allocated for Balkh province in the 1396 solar yearinfo-icon’s budget document.

He said the bulk of the proposed budget would go to projects concerning agricultureinfo-icon, rural development, educationinfo-icon, security, healthinfo-icon and the private sector development.

Zabihullah Akhtari, the provincial sectorial and technical director, told Pajhwok Afghan News if the budget was fully utilized, many problems facing residents would be resolved.

But provincial council head Dr. Mohammad Afzal Hadid said most projects executed with the national budget had always fallen prey to corruption.

He said such projects were often given to relatives of powerful men, ministers and lawmakers. However, he named no one.
