Commander among 18 rebels perish in Uruzgan air raid

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Eighteen Talibaninfo-icon insurgents, including a commander, were killed during an overnight air raid in the capital of central Uruzgan province, an official said on Thursday.

An officer at the provincial police headquarters, 2nd Lt. Zainullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News the air strike was conducted in Mehrabad area on the outskirts of Tirinkot, the provincial capital, on Wednesday night.

He said the insurgents, led by a commander, were planning to attack security check posts in the area when they were pounded from the air.

He identified the slain commander as Mullahinfo-icon Ihsanullah, who was among 17 others eliminated in the attack. There has been so far no word from insurgents in this regard.
