Nearly a dozen militants killed in Uruzgan clashes

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Nearly a dozen Talibaninfo-icon insurgents were killed and half a dozen wounded in separate clashes with security forces in central Uruzgan province, officials said on Wednesday.

An official at the provincial police headquarters, 2nd Lt. Zainullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban rebels attacked a police convoy with supplies and equipment in Chino and Sabzak areas near Tirinkot, the provincial capital, late on Tuesday night.

The ensuing two hours long fierce clash resulted in the killing of five militants, including a notorious Taliban commander named Mullahinfo-icon Ismatullah. Three more attackers were wounded.

Separately, six militants were killed and three others wounded during a firefighting with police in Chora district, the district police chief said. 2nd Lt. Asadullah said the clash erupted in Niayzi area and that the police escaped unharmed.

There has been so far no word from insurgents about the two incidents.
