Ghani, India FM discuss expansion of bilateral trade

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani and the Indian foreign minister have discussed regional security, counterterrorism and expansion of trade between the two countries.

Ghani met Sushma Swaraj on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday afternoon, a statement from the Presidential Palace said on Thursday.

The president hailed India as a friend of Afghanistaninfo-icon and appreciated its cooperation in various fields. They exchanged views on the security of the region, counterterrorism and expansion of bilateral trade.

They welcomed the new US strategy for Afghanistan “beneficial” for the stability and security of the entire region.

Ghani said Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah would soon visit India to discuss with Indian businessmen investment opportunities in Afghanistan.

He would exchange view with Indian officials on the promotion of agricultureinfo-icon and cooperation on water management between the two countries.

Swaraj praised the efforts of the Afghan government, especially the president, for regional economic cooperation and called for executing infrastructure projects to develop the region.
