Taliban deny firing rockets at Kajaki dam

Taliban deny firing rockets at Kajaki dam

Sep 30, 2017 - 19:56

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon insurgents fired several rockets at the hydropower plant in the Kajaki district of southern Helmand province, police said on Saturday, but the rebels denied the claim.

Helmand police spokesman Abdul Salaam Afghan told Pajhwok Afghan News the rockets landed close to the hydropower dam, causing damages to the facility and injuring one security guard.

He said the rockets were fired from areas under Taliban control. Afghan did not go into further details.

Another government source claimed the rockets were made in Iran and provided to the Taliban for special targets such as dams and other vital infrastructure projects.

Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi rejected the fighters had fired rockets at the dam, saying the Taliban protected mega projects including dams and did not wish to target them.
