Pakistan resumes shelling into Kunar; yet again: Police

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Local officials of the eastern province of Kunar on Monday alleged that the Pakistani military has fired at least 183 mortar shells into the province from across the Durand Lineinfo-icon.

Maj. Gen. Jummal Gul Himmat, the provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Pakistani army has fired approximately 183 rockets into the four bordering districts of the province in the past 24 hours.

He said the affected districts are Dangam, Narai, Shigal, and Shultan.

Himmat said that one of the shells landed at a civilian house in Sawano area of Dangam district, completely destroying the house. A man was also injured in the incident.

According to him, the shelling also killed the cattle and destroyed farm lands in some areas.

The Pakistani forces have continued sporadic shelling of different border provinces of Afghanistaninfo-icon over the past few years.

The shelling from across the Durand Line has frequently resulted in civilian casualties. Many people living in bordering districts have been forced to flee their homes.

The Afghan government has regularly attempted through diplomatic channels to prevent the aggression from the neighboring country, but to no avail.

Many Afghans have started insisting that the Afghan government should give Pakistaninfo-icon a tit-for-tat response.
