ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Displaced by Pakistani shelling in eastern Kunar province, 221 families have been assisted with food and other relief supplies, the provincial governor says.

The Kunar governor’s spokesman, Waheedullah Kalimzai, while distributing the aid, said over the past 24 hours Pakistani military had fired more than 496 artillery shells into Asmar, Shultan, Marwara and Sarkano districts.

He said the Pakistani aggression forced about 221 families to flee homes in Shultan district. Kalimzai said the families, seeking refuge, had arrived in Asadabad, the provincial capital.

Kalimzai said the displaced families were provided with food, tents, blankets and carpets on Wednesday.

A displaced individual, Mir Salam, said a mortar shell landed at his residence, killing his livestock. “We rushed and rescued our womeninfo-icon and children and left everything behind at our home. We are in very harsh condition. We are now 20 people living in a single room.”

He thanked the government for assisting them with tents and food items on time.

This comes as Pakistani army a few days back, after relative calmness, has again started a new wave of cross-border attacks from Pakistan.

The shelling from across the Durand Lineinfo-icon has frequently resulted in civilian casualties. Many people living in bordering districts have been forced to flee their homes.

The Afghan government has regularly attempted through diplomatic channels to prevent the aggression from the neighboring country, but to no avail.

Many Afghans have started insisting that the Afghan government should give Pakistan a tit-for-tat response.
