Malnutrition treatment center opens in Zaranj hospital

Malnutrition treatment center opens in Zaranj hospital

Nov 14, 2017 - 15:50

ZARANJ (Pajhwok): A malnutrition treatment center (MTC) has been established at the civil hospital in Zaranj, the capital of southwestern Nimroz province, home to more malnourished children than other provinces.

Dr. Khusraw Yousafzai, the provincial public healthinfo-icon director, said statistics compiled by a non-government organization showed malnourished children were in highest number in Nimroz.

He said about 13.9 percent children in Nimroz were underweight and the highest number could be blamed on misappropriation of foods meant for malnourished children in the past.

Dr. Yousafzai said the newly-established malnutrition treatment section building at the hospital cost 1,200,000 afghanis funded by a national trader and people.

Nimroz governor Mohammad Sami said malnutrition treatment section was equipped with all facilities in order to reduce the number of malnourished children.

He appreciated the national businessman and people’s cooperation in development programs and praised their participation in implementation of such projects.

Dr. Fatah Shah Emamzai, head of the Zaranj Hospital, said that the malnutrition treatment section had been previously operating in a ruined room without any medical equipment, but the new centre had many facilities for patients and doctors.
